Nanban Girls Centre, situated at door nos 12, 13, 14 of the East Street, Madichiam, Madurai, is in a compounded area of 24 cents. This serves as a residential home, where an average of 75 girls can be accommodated , mostly in the age group of 3 to 18 years.

Nanban's Boys Centre is located in Dharapuram consisting of 4 spacious halls situated amidst a large picturesque garden. Our Home for Boys has all the required facilitates to accommodate upto 50 children. The resident boys here have been in the age group of between 5 and 18 years. The Nanban's integrated Agriculture & Animal Husbandry Farm is close to this Boys Home.

Both the foster Homes for Girls and Boys are Nanban's owned premises and the dormitory spaces are not less then 40 square feet per child with sufficient spaces for play, studies, extra curricular activities, utility rooms, etc...

Adequate lighting, ventilation, heating/cooking arrangements, drinking water and toilets in terms of age appropriateness, health/sanitation hygiene, institutional discipline, standards of behavior and of responsibilities/obligations are provide for. Balanced, nutritious and varied diet scales are adhered to. Resident care-givers look after their growing up and developmental needs, in a homely atmosphere of love, affection, care and welfare. Invariably all the children attend local schools. There are also part time staff visiting the homes - like counselors, a teacher each for dance, music, karate, sports, skills training in arts and crafts, resilience - promoting session, etc. Clothing, bedding and other articles including undergarments, towel, school uniforms, bedsheets, utensils, tooth brush/paste, soap, oil, etc as required, are issued to the children from time to time. Regular medical facilities (including psychiatric counseling) are made available. Non-formal education and training facilitate in vocational occupations, both within Nanban's own income-generating infrastructures (like the Agricultural Farms, Automobile workshop, Bakery (Production/Marketing) Unit), etc... - and in the training units administered by fellow - NGO's.

We have provided educational and/or hostel facilities for other children (like physically and mentally handicapped children) into the appropriate special schools for them managed by other friendly NGOs.

Similarly, alternate part time job placements for those children hazardously employed elsewhere but residing with their respective parents, have also been extended.

One special feature in our Homes that needs mentioning here is that the children resident in our Homes have their own Panchayat Council (their own annually elected self regulating body) that manages their own day to day affairs, such as

- self help in maintaining shared spaces in the Home - cleaning of open spaces, gardening, etc.. - elder children looking after the younger kids - group activities on recreation/games, moral education, prayer, physical exercise, use of the common library, TV-room and other utilities etc...

On an average, not less than 100 of all the Nanban wards participate in a Summer Camp (of 3 to 4 weeks) held during the schools vacation (May/June every year) in pleasant environments. Agendas for child-friendly leisure and skills development activities in sports, music, dance, theatre, handicrafts, children to children discussions, children to community elders social interactions, etc., are mostly drawn up by the child participants.
