NANBAN currently is hosting the publication of a book and toolkit for gender mainstreaming in disaster response and preparedness. The book Indian Ocean Tsunami through a Gender Lens: Insights from Tamil Nadu state of India, is an outcome of a comprehensive research, carried out by the author Ms.Chaman Pincha and her team members in the year 2006-2007, on the gender differential impacts of the Tsunami on women, men and people from transgender community and NGOs gender mainstreaming strategies in their engagement with disaster response and prepredness.

The publication of an evidence-based toolkit, supported by Oxfam America and hosted by us, on Gender mainstreaming in Disaster Management is the outcome of this research. It captures the nuanced understanding of the gender based issues and needs as well as strategies and interventions which can further gender equality through disaster management process. In and easy to understand language, this toolkit can be used effectively by the field practioners and policy makers alike. The toolkit provides to the practioners tools and framework for gendering participatory and policy making processes. Replete with thematic line sketches and field pictures, the toolkit is sure to make attract a reader’s attention to its contents.
