Transit Centre / Night Shelters

The Nanban's Transit Centre for children in distress offers safety and security, together with the basic facilities for food, bed, shower, toilet, etc., and opportunities for relaxation and recuperation. A Nanban care-giver receives from time to time, one child or a small number of children needing help, with understanding, concern and care. The children's immediate needs are addressed to, Counseling services are offered in the form of dialogues based on our Resilience promoting approaches, where the Nanban Counselor provides information sought by the child being counseled, so that these may help the child to get some grasp on the problems he/she may be facing: to reason out and discuss the pros and cons of the next steps being contemplated by him/her which may assist towards making up his/her mind. In most cases, counseling facilitates a runaway child to get reconciled and reunited with the parents/guardians. Members of the child's family too are counseled so that an estrangement my not occur again. Where reunion with guardians becomes difficult or impossible, other alternate placements are found for such a child.
The Transit Centre serve as the base-camp for many of Nanban's service programmes for the distressed children.
